Demo has been done on the North side of Dodge at about 76th. Don't remember what the building used to be. Someone told me they thought it will be a Buckeys.

That was a pool store and I think a floral shop at one time.

Was Rax Roast Beef at one time, if its the one I am thinking of. Was last a Piccolos florist. Moved to or from the lot adjacent to it.

Rax Roast Beef is definitely a blast from the past. I remember it being there but don't remember ever trying it.

I forgot about Rax. The Piccolo's owner had plans for some of the adjacent property before he committed suicide, if I remember correctly. Sad deal.
He said "They are some big, ugly red brick buildings"
...and then they were gone.

I thought Frank Piccolo was still alive, managing the floral department at Mullhalls.

Yes, Bucky's owns that land, I'm just glad they didn't build on the SW corner of 72nd St...

Interesting. They were going to build at 80th ish and Dodge at one time too, where Jiffy Lube was.

Virtually the entire front façade of the former Bag and Save store is gone. The entire south side is open, with supports apparently holding up the roof.
Not sure what plans are for the property.

This area is kind of a waste of space the more I look at it. I think the land could be used a lot better, don't worry not some crazy mixed use mega development either.

My idea would have been to demo the whole complex and rebuild it closer to Dodge Street. That strip mall has such terrible visibility from Dodge and that massive parking lot will never be full. With the space gained behind the new strip mall you could build a standard apartment complex.

A lot more efficient land use, retailers get better Dodge street visibility and more residents living in the area. Could have been a win win for everyone.

Yeah that place is like a mile from Dodge, now that you mention it.

I agree with your comments. But I don't see that happening in the next 15 years. What could happen is for several additional smaller retail buildings to open along Dodge. Perhaps replacing the antiquated Burger King. Bucky's is building on the far southwest part of the property. Not my ideal tenant, but it is something.

That is what I figured. I didn't realize how awkward that parcel is until they graded it.

WOW! So they demolished the entire plaza that existing adjacent to Bag N Save? It looks like they also removed Burger King. With the exception to Bucky's are there any other plans for retail around Hobby Lobby?

The BK is still in the photo, just under the domes of Crossroads, blue roof.

I think this is the parcel where the really old Rax building was, where the florist was before it moved to the building to the west, or vice versa.

Yeah, the angle of this photo is a little misleading.
This is a narrow strip of land along the Creek, mostly N/S.

For some reason, I thought the Bucky's was going in at 80th and Dodge. I was wondering what this was the last few days (too busy to search).

There was one going in there, they leveled a Jiffy Lube on that spot. I forget what the latest on that was...

Most of the parcel is Abandoned Chicago & Northwestern Railroad Right-of-Way. The tracks were removed around 1993, about the same time the large grain elevator was removed where Lowes is now. The lot was a small triangle which had a fast food restaurant before it was combined with the railroad property.

Bucky's had bought the Border's land, before selling it to the virtual library project.

72nd & Dodge did long time ago, it was a tiny Amoco on the NE side, back when there was a Hinky Dinky there.

From a traffic standpoint alone this one is a win.

The steel for the front of hobby lobby is going up, and the concrete block walls for the Buckys are about waist high.

I was driving by today and I think Bag & Save -> Hobby Lobby (V 2.0) is way better than their original plan from a Business Standpoint. The new location has so much more visibility and way better access. Looks like construction is about done and they should be stocking the shelves soon.

Went to Hobby Lobby last night. The parking lot seems awfully dark at night. They have stupid bright lights over at Burger King that blind you, but few in the actual HL parking. They seem very spaced out and not very bright. The store was overstaffed for the amount of business they had, but I assume that's part of opening this week and not knowing what to expect. My husband went with me (shocker!) and was really impressed with their model aisle. He said he's never seen that many models at any other the other Hobby Lobbys I occasionally drag him to. I'm happy to not have to drive down to Papillion.

We went too and, yes it seemed really dark. I think I remember that old Bag and Save being dark, but this almost felt like there wen't even lights on.

That parking lot has had terrible lighting for as long as I can remember. I can't believe that Hobby Lobby didn't see that the lighting was fixed before opening. The parking lot itself leaves a lot to be desired. It could use a total resurface.

The one going in off of 72nd and Grover is a Shell too. It makes sense for both station not to be branded BP considering their close proximity to another BP station. I'm surprised that they just didn't go unbranded. Maybe they got a good rebate deal from Shell.
