The proposed Bellevue Conference and Event Center would be big enough to hold at least 1000 people. It would also be connected to a multi-story hotel with approximately 150 rooms.
I was wondering why over the summer they leveled the proposed site out with a ton of infill dirt and this explains it, I would agree we don't really need another "conference and event center" or arena in the market here, we have too many already. On the other hand the hotel could fill a need being that close to the base

I'm not sure what this fills that the Leid Center doesn't. I guess it's a bit more official.
I don't think that a gym (Lied Activity Center) would be a place to hold proper event such as these conferences.
And the the Bellevue Welcome Center is just too small and not even equipped to support these events.

I guess I'm a little surprised that Bellevue wouldn't try to place a public project like this along Fort Crook... give the area a badly needed boost. 36th and 370 seems to have more than enough private development.
Shoot for the Moon... if you miss, you'll land among the stars.
It will be great to see some continued growth in this area. There is a lot of available land and that area has sat mostly dormant since the middle to late 1990's. I think in the next decade there will also be more development on 370 between 25th and 72nd. I have noticed that some of the land recently has for sale/lease signs on it.
Saw this in the 2014 Bellevue visitors guide we just received. I thought it deserved its own thread since it is kind of separate from Twin Creek shopping center.
Residential
Retail, Restaurant and Entertainment
Office, Medical and Professional
Hotel and Conference/Event Center
- Total Site Size: 85 acres (35% built out) - 45.35 acres planned for new development
- $40,000,000 existing valuation

- Existing - Twin Creek Cinema - 16 screen theater - (1,000,000 customers/year)
- Under construction - Twin Creek Cinema major upgrade seating-dining- Ultra Screen DLX
- Existing - 60,000 sq. ft. Class "A" business, professional and medical offices
- Existing - Pavilions at Twin Creek - 240 unit Class "A" residential apartments
- Existing - Culvers restaurant
- Starting spring 2014 - Trailside Apartments - 240 Class "A" units - start spring 2014
- Starting summer 2014 - Courtyard by Marriott

- Planned - Main Street - Retail, Restaurant and Entertainment District
- Adjacent to hub of 140 mile of paved recreational trail system

At this point, it looks like the Trailside Apts (240 units) and the Bellevue Conference Center and Courtyard Hotel are the only things being built this summer. I am not sure what the zoning is for the land behind Northrup Grumman across 36th St to the east and also not sure about the closeness to the creek, but it would be great to see some residential spring up here if possible. That would help to solidify the area and draw a larger population and tax base.

I know they are working on the development for the old plant. It is called Cornhusker Pointe. I remember reading a few weeks ago in the Bellevue paper that they just recently got approved for TIF that they were applying for the site. I will see if I can find something on it.

As far as I would guess its not zoned anything, likely because it is considered flood plain would take a bit of infill to raise, and the planes going in and out of Offutt fly over that spot all day and night its part of there landing corridor. On the other hand it would be nice to see it eventually developed, growth at Twin Creek on this scale is amazing
The City Council on Monday night approved issuing $6.9 million in bonds to help pay for the conference center. The city received a $1.1 million grant from the Nebraska Department of Economic Development to finance the rest.
A developer, Kinseth Hospitality Group of Iowa, will pay for the hotel — a 124-room Courtyard by Marriott. The conference center will have 25,000 square feet and seating for 800 to 1,000 people in the main ballroom.
According to an article in the Bellevue newspaper, the ground breaking for the project should be in a few weeks but most of the actual construction work won't happen until spring now with an estimated completion of Sept 2016.
The amount approved Monday is $500,000 more than the council OK’d in June, but city officials said the extra money will help if construction costs increase.
Construction on the center was slated to begin this summer, and then in October; now, the groundbreaking is scheduled for April.
Design and bidding delays have moved the project back, City Administrator Dan Berlowitz said. Completion is expected in the spring of 2016.
