Dario will be opening an Italian place.  It will be real Italian.  Antipasti, primi, secondi, contorni.  Not red sauce, white sauce pink sauce.

as in sushi?  Actually reminds me of another Dundee rumor...that the florist shop will become a sushi joint.

Lol.  Not arancini.  Or maybe.  But Dario wants to focus on Northern Italian.  Egg yolk enriched pastas, risotto, etc. for primi.  After spending some time at Marea and Torrisi in NYC, Omaha should expect some pretty outstanding pastas!

Yes, authentic arancini, or Italian rice balls.  My wife loves them and can't find any good ones in Omaha.  When we are in DC in a few weeks we are going to make a special trip up to Baltimore to a place that apparently is famous for their Italian rice balls.

Avoli Osteria

Dining notes: Dundee place to offer hand-rolled pasta

http://www.omaha.com/article/20130410/G ... lled-pasta
Sarah Baker Hansen World-Herald Staff Writer wrote:Avoli Osteria will take over the space at 5013 Underwood Ave. Agave restaurant was its most recent tenant, and the space also was home to the 1020 and, before that, Trovato's.

Schicke said Avoli will be an Italian restaurant focused on hand-rolled pasta.

We ate here tonight and it was excellent!  All four of us really enjoyed our food!  We had a steak and 3 different pastas and they were all good!  Someone else told us it was the best steak in Omaha.  I couldn't go as far as calling it the best in Omaha, but its sure up there on the list

Beverages were a bit steep, but really good.  Service and atmosphere was really good too.

Doesn't surprise me at all. The best steak I've had in Omaha was cooked sous-vide at Dario's.

Was Avoli better than Vincenzo's?     I found Vincenzo's entrees mediocre.

Yes, Avoli was better.  I also think you quoted a post from a few days ago and compared it to a post I made several years ago.  While I never had anything bad at at Vincenzo's, it was a long time ago.

We tried Avoli for dinner last night.  They were packed, now that the Underwood street reconstruction project is winding down.
The food was simply amazing.  Several dishes were the very best of their genre we had ever eaten.  Anywhere.  The menu is small.  Almost tiny.  Which might explain why each item is meticulously prepared.
Service was fine.  The atmosphere is rustic and homy, sort of like a cross between an Italian villa and Brother Sebastian's.  Lots of chandeliers and marble table tops.  Dimly lit.
I think it is Omaha's best Italian restaurant, and one of the city's very best restaurants overall.
FYI, you can use the large parking lot behind the restaurant, off California Street, for free parking.
