Le Bouillon

That address, where the French Café operated for more than 40 years, is finding new life next month, when Chef Paul Kulik opens Le Bouillon, a modern French bistro, at 1013 Howard St.

“It's the most important restaurant space in the city,” said Kulik, who also runs the Boiler Room Restaurant in the Old Market. “The opportunity to do something interesting in that space is absolutely thrilling.”

Slated to open in October, Le Bouillon won't be the French food your grandparents remember.

It will be a casual restaurant with a lower price point than the French Café or the Boiler Room. The menu will focus on French comfort food with a regional twist. Diners can expect a variety of small snacks and large entrées designed to share between two to four diners. The restaurant will also have a full bar but with a focus on wine.

This is going to be like a less expensive version of Boiler Room, right?

We poked our heads up to the windows of the French Cafe yesterday.  Absolutely no evidence that anything has changed in there in 18 months.  The tables are still set, with dusty white linens, dusty silver wear, and condiment containers still on the tables.  Freakin' bizarre.

I walked by there monday. There were signs for "wet paint" on the outside

They were supposed to have opened by now.  Any idea when that will actually happen?

Any signs of life on this?  The web site has seen no update in months.  Absolutely no information is provided.  The holiday season is upon us now.

When walking by lately, I have noticed they have all the light on inside.  It had looked like they were maybe painting.  I would think that they would want to open for the holidays and all the guests Creighton/UNO games and concerts bring.

New Old Market restaurant having its first dinner next week
The World Herald wrote:
Le Bouillon, the new restaurant from chef/owner Paul Kulik and owners Mark and Vera Mercer that's taking over the former French Cafe space, is having its first dinner Nov. 20.

The dinner precedes the restaurant's actual opening; its official opening date has not been announced.

Interesting menu. Nice to know I can actually afford to go there once every thousand years or so.

Haven't seen it mentioned anywhere, but Le Bouillon should be thanked for their help today with the tragedy! After running out of the Gallery one of the first people I saw on the street was a Le Bouillon employee who was directing people who were evacuated and affected by the fire to take shelter in their restaurant. Le Bouillon ended up being the meeting place for all the M's employees as well as others.

Thanks for looking out Le Bouillon!

We did our family Christmas party there this year. Food was great and the staff was very helpful. Good to hear them do this.

We had great food and service. I can heartily recommend the place.
