Godfathers is a whole different game...  Godfathers is never on my pizza radar.

I am really looking forward for this new place to open.  Hope they do great!  We tried to support Mojo even though we said 3 or 4 times we would never go back but we ended up there giving them one more chance.  It will be nice to have another place to eat and drink in my neighborhood.

There must not be any "do not compete" clauses in AV.  Godfather's Pizza can't be happy about this.

Do Not Compete clauses are a real thing?

Lots of leases have them. Most of the time it is in a retail setting, however banks/financial institutions use them sometimes in office leases.

Sometimes when a business owner sells their company, a Do Not Compete clause is inserted to prevent them from using the sale proceeds to start up a competitor to their old business within a certain radius.

I won't say its zero threat, but a bar/pizza restaurant is a minimal threat to them, especially for an established brand like Dominoes.  The customer experience/price/typical clientele is night and day.

They are usually called Non Compete if used in a business buyout.  You don't want to buy "Chubby's Grill" and have Chubby open up next door or even in the same city.  There is usually a time limit and a distance limit.

As for real estate or mall development, it can happen.  Near us there is a strip mall that has an independent dollar store and a Family Dollar opened in the same strip.  I asked the owner of the independent if he had any kind of covenant and he said he thought so but it was only for the first year.  He didn't notice that when he read the lease.

Some covenants also have lists of types of stores or restaurants that can't open nearby.  Not always enforceable but you try everything.  Try putting a 24 hour 7-11 in Regency.  Ain't gonna happen.

There are a lot of retail centers in town that make deals with tenants where they won't let a competitor in.

Aksarben pizza shop changes name, will open next month

http://www.omaha.com/article/20131118/G ... next-month
Micah Mertes / World-Herald staff writer wrote:Was it associated with Lincoln's Railyard District? Or the Railcar restaurant in west Omaha? Or the Localmotive Food Truck?

Malm said after they started seeing enough of these question on social media, they decided to look into a different name, this one rooted in Aksarben history.

The new name comes from Dudley Smith, who, in 1895, coined the term "Aksarben," saying the Knights of Aksarben were going to turn the state around.

I forgot to post this, but we went to Dudley's about a week ago. The pizza was Great! The fired Pickles were awesome too!

By the way, they do have their liquor license now too.

We ate there tonight. Had bacon cheeseburger and onion rings. The rings were very light and crispy. The burgers were very well prepared and I would rank these above Bullfrogs and Stella's.

At there the other night, it was pretty good but nothing spectacular. I think they should be able to fill a niche in that area.

Yes, there are 6 color Omaha prints in the booths. The old B&W are from the Durham Archives.

Went back again yesterday, this place is Great! Service, food, atmosphere, its all great!

We started with the fried pickles again. They are one of the best fried pickles in town. The did change the presentation, and I think they look even better!

Image

For my meal, I had the Peanut Butter Bob burger. Had peanut butter and a fried egg on it as well as a bunch of other stuff. It was great, very messy, but it tasted really good. I had a side of the Truffle fires, and they were good as well and came with a great dipping sauce.

Image

My wife had this interesting Manager's Special. It was a peanut butter and Jelly pizza with chicken. It sounds funny, but was Awesome!

Image

We sat on the patio and it was packed all night!

Great Local restaurant that I would highly recommend!

Sarah Baker Hansen's review of Dudley's:

Dining review: At Dudley's, come for the crust, stay for the cookies
Dudley’s hits all the right notes in Aksarben Village. Its atmosphere is welcoming and not as overwhelmingly sports bar-themed as it might appear. A patio is a magnet for diners, especially on the recent lovely late summer evenings.

There’s something to be said for a place that makes the kind of food that people want to eat and does it in a comfortable atmosphere at an affordable price. On all those fronts, Dudley’s satisfies.

No change. The theater has been involved in it since the beginning, they "removed" the two brother that were running it. Was and will still be a great place.

The brothers got a ton of help from everybody to get this off the ground, they were really nice guys, but had zero background in the industry...

Just how do people with zero background in running a bar/restaurant get funded to run a bar/restaurant??? Those things are super expensive to get off the ground, especially in a high rent area like Aksarben Village.

We have excellent news for all Dudley’s customers. We would like to thank you for the feedback that we have received over the past few months regarding the prices of our pizzas. We are excited to announce that beginning tomorrow evening, without changing or cutting corners in any of our recipes, we have reduced pricing of all pizzas by 15% to 20% permanently! On behalf of everyone here at Dudley’s, we thank you for dining with us. We’ll see you soon!
