Omaha Bicycle Co. (Benson)

Post by Coyote »

Last night I was at an event at the Omaha Bicycle Co. in Benson and talked with its owner Sarah Johnson, the former owner of Greenstreets. She now has had this store open since two years ago Halloween, which includes a coffee shop (before Aromas opened a block to the west). She has a ton of great ideas for biking in the Omaha area (giving us tips for winter biking in Omaha) and for the Benson area in general. I have walked right past it many times, but now plan on coming back here for more than my biking needs.

You are correct. I also got to Untappd check in several new brews from Infusion and Benson, served by Tiffany.

Sarah has been a great advocate for the cycling community, both at Greenstreet and now as owner of Omaha Bicycle Co. I stopped in there for the Cranksgiving event a few weeks ago. It is a great place to hang out, between the conversations, the coffee, and the board games.

I showed Sarah eOmahaForums and invited her to post, I really hope she shares some of her thoughts here.

In an interview, Johnson, 38, said the business is in good shape financially. But she said she has been dealing with health problems and has had trouble attracting bike-repair people to Omaha.
So why not sell it? Or maybe nobody wanted to buy it.
It’s difficult, she said, “finding and keeping — attracting — employees to a city that really isn’t doing much for bikes.”

Johnson said she’s tired of surveys and studies and wants the city to take action.
lol, yep. Studies. Omaha loves studies (that cost a bunch of money).

I think she also owns the building, so hopefully she has a number of options to maximize her return.

Having a business that’s doing well is still hard to run if you can’t get employees. There’s no point in selling a business if you don’t have people to work at it.

Dripped and Draped Coffee shop and Clothing Boutique has opened here. (Same owners as Mixins ice cream downtown).
