2004 Offutt Defenders of Freedom Air Show

Post by eomaha »

One of the nation's largest airshows and the midwest's largest joint branch show.

My air show tip... take 370 to Bellevue... go south on Kennedy to ~ Fairview Rd... swing around and go north on Fort Crook... you can turn right in to the Capehart Rd entrance (you'll be the only car going in to merge at the front of the long line).
All eyes are skyward

Offutt Air Force Base, Bellevue, will be the host of the Defenders of Freedom Air Show on Saturday and Sunday, featuring the Air Force Thunderbirds and the Army Golden Knights parachute team.

Fly-by shows include the Japanese Zero, the P-47 Thunderbolt and the B-25 Mitchell bomber. Dozens of aircraft, including the F4U Corsair and B-17 bomber, will be on display.

The city of Bellevue also hosts its annual community celebration, Arrows to Aerospace, this week.

The parade is 10 a.m. Saturday on Mission Street in the Olde Towne neighborhood and concludes at Washington Park.

The park is celebration headquarters Saturday with a pancake breakfast 8 a.m. to noon, pet parade following the people parade and craft fair.

Schedule
8:30 a.m.- 5 p.m.: Shuttle buses operate.
9 a.m.: Gates open.
11 a.m.-4:30 p.m.: Air show.
5 p.m.: Gates close.
Admission: free

Another tip: go with someone who has a base ID

I'm presuming cameras are permissable.

Absolutely.

Although boy scout pocket knives that you got when you were 12 years old and were dumb enough to leave in your pocket after cutting some trimmer line earlier the same morning... will be confiscated (the alternative was walking ALL the way back to the car with the kids... and walking ALL the way back to the checkpoint). :(

Seems really silly when you can buy a 6" long... metal SR-71 that would be driven through someone at least as easily as my crummy little boyscout knife.

Nice pictures as usual Coyote!

Well... my usual secret entrance off of Fort Crook worked again... however... all that new construction made for a heck of a walk compared to past years!

Show was great as usual.
