I will add more names to the poll when they are submitted.

Interesting similar story behind the naming of the Pearl District:
Wikipedia wrote:According to the Pearl District Business Association, Thomas Augustine, a local gallery owner, coined the phrase more than 10 years ago to suggest that the buildings in the warehouse district were like crusty oysters, and that the galleries and artists' lofts within were like pearls. "There were very few visible changes in the area," says Al Solhiem, a developer who has been involved in many projects in the district. "People would drive by and not have a clue as to what was inside." As local business people were looking to label the growing area—the "warehouse district" or the "brewery district" were two suggestions—an Alaska Airlines writer borrowed Augustine's phrase, according to Solheim. The name stuck.

I just don't know that a name can just be coined for the area. To me at has to arise from an unexpected place. Similar to how North Downtown supposedly came about. My other comment is what is wrong with North Downtown. Not trendy or fresh enough? If that is the case I wish someone would have raised that concern when we deemed a part of town "The Old Market". Sorry, pretty bland in my book.

Too suburby sounding. Why not just Miller?Swift wrote:As I posted in the other topic:
Why not call the entire district Miller's Landing? There's already a park right there called Miller's Landing. It sounds cool, is historically significant, and it gives a geographic description (landing, i.e. on the river).

North Downtown is the worst Name. is just bla... nothing to it. I don't support black pearl because its too close to the pearl district out west.
My vote, Railyard District.

They should call it something people will actually call it. I think now if someone was trying to tell where TipTop is they'd say "by Creighton" or "by the Qwest Center". No ones going to say North Downtown. No ones going to say "let's go to the warehouse/railyard district for dinner tonight."
North DT is fine, but I don't see what's wrong with just calling it Downtown. The only thing DT that's not called DT is the Old Market. No other distinction is made so why is it so improtatnt to do it here?

I'd go for the Railyard District. I like RiverNorth district or even North Downtown district but anything resembling North Downtown has got to go. Apart from being unoriginal, I seriously think it sends out negative connotations that might even hamper development. Not to be overly Freudian, but really, I think it brings up subliminal thoughts of "dont do it, etc...". Kind of like the Chevy Nova. When that car came out Chevy couldn't figure out why it wasn't selling at all in Latin America. Well, go figure "NOVA"...It literally translate to NO GO or DOESN'T GO in Spanish. I really think North Downtown might have the same kind of effect
That made me laugh. Do you think people in NYC think about hootchie mamas when they go to SOHO? lolomahahawk wrote:...anything resembling North Downtown has got to go. I get your point but my first thought is it sounds too much like DODO - something extinct. I think it's going to stick because it's short.
