For the same project or something else?

Either way, that's crazy. There's a lot of great activity in this area!
40th at the top of the hill is most likely for the new pharmacy building.

Thanks. Yeah, thinking more, of course it can't be the same project as that's west of 42nd.

I think it is for the college of pharmacy and outpatient center as MSizlack stated above.

As homeowner near UNMC, this thread keeps getting better and better. A thriving university means more faculty and more students. Which means a higher resale value.

Fits in with that side of campus well. Probably about ~750K SF of floor space u/c on campus right now. Huge construction boom for Nebraska Medicine.

Considerably shorter than the other two, not surprising. Still really awesome to see all the activity all over campus.

Med Center toying with the idea of building a stand alone Biocontainment Center that could cost $300 million. Apparently they already have a site picked out and it would be much larger and include surgical areas and potentially be the training center nationwide.

Wow not sure if its worth that kind of dough to have a facility like that but sure seems like the NMC is becoming the leading facility in the country/world for this.. kind of unnerving knowing that all the worlds deadiest diseases will be brought right into Omaha if they build a center like this.

I think it would be pretty awesome if we had a facility like that where we could train doctors, nurses and other health practitioners and such, but if there is an existing facility, military or civilian, we could use that instead and put the $300 million toward something else.

I'm just speculating, but a facility like that would probably be funded largely from federal grant and homeland security money. Pushback from the not in my backyard crowd might be an issue though. Just look at the National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratory (NEIDL) in Boston. They've been trying to get approval to bring their Biosafety Level IV area online, but ignorant neighborhood activists are doing all they can to keep it from happening.

Does that mean the Saddle Creek realignment is actually happening? The old portion on the creek bed was supposed to be like that.

She didn't say. I kind of assumed as much though. Said there would be a lake involved. I wouldn't be surprised to see a lot of dirt taken away from the site once the buildings are gone.

Does anyone have a link to site plans for the outpatient center? I'm curious how it sits on the plot, i.e., is the building fronting Leavenworth like the Center for Successful Aging, or is it set back with surface parking like the eye clinic?

Best I could find. Looks like parking beneath the building with a lot in front too.

Thanks for sharing! That looks like they're matching the layout and architecture of the eye institute pretty closely.

I've been desperately looking for an excuse to swing through there to see how it's going. It's way out of my way, sadly.

There is a base set for yet another tower crane at UNMC. That will make a total of four tower cranes on the campus.

http://www.omaha.com/news/metro/plan-fo ... 0f966.html
The hotel would be built along Farnam Street between 42nd and 44th Street, on the University of Nebraska Medical Center campus, under a preliminary plan going before the Omaha Planning Board next week.

The developer, Tetrad Property Group, would demolish the former Premier Bank branch at 42nd and Farnam Streets.

Tetrad would work with the City of Omaha to take out the section of street where the eastbound lanes of Farnam Street turn south, curve around the bank building and cross 42nd Street to connect with one-way eastbound Harney Street.

A new, simpler connection between Farnam and Harney would cut diagonally across what’s now a parking lot east of 42nd Street.
The hotel is a separate project, Tetrad CEO Zach Wiegert said. It also is expected to open in 2017.

The number of rooms hasn’t been finalized, Wiegert said. It’s likely to fall in a range of from 170 to 250 rooms.

The preliminary plan submitted to the Planning Board says the hotel would be seven stories tall, with two levels of parking below.

Wiegert said the hotel could end up taller or shorter than that, depending on the number of rooms.

When I first heard about the NM hotel over a year ago, the talk was that there will be a need for 300-400 rooms. Besides the need for patients and there families, there is also a need for rooms for residents who come for a month at a time from other programs, guest speakers, executives\staff from other places to see how services are set up (like the bio containment unit), and there is a need on the education and research side as well. So even if it's built to the 250 room, that still leaves a lot of potential need if that 300-400 estimate holds true. And the last I heard, which was right around the first of the year, the hotel next to Dodge, was still on.

A quick  Maps search returned The Colonial and Cornerstone Mansion as far as the closest places to get a room. I'd say these hotels are far overdue.

I'm glad to see they're going to re-structure the Farnam/Harney split. It's going to make a huge improvement in the east-bound access to the Blackstone area.

Crane tower base installed at the parking garage site near 41st and Harney. That makes a pretty much guarentee that 5 tower cranes will be up on campus this summer. Maybe 6 if the hotel starts soon too.
