Annexation passed planning board 6-0 and now on to City Council. No opponents spoke.
So did this ever come to fruition?
Yeah, its already a done deal.

The Omaha City Limits are in yellow, and more importantly the EJT is a heavy black dashed line. This annexation really made a big difference from Flannagan Lake to the north west.

How far away are we from annexing Bennington?
Kind of surprised that Bennington hasn't been more aggressive in taking steps to annex neighboring subdivisions.

No very close. If you go look at that map I referenced above, you will see there is about 2 miles between the Omaha city Limits and the Bennington City Limits.

The only two SID's that are nearly full are Newport Hill and Newport Landing. Who knows that their debt is though. The Heritage is also in Bennington's ETJ, but they just added a couple new streets that will eventually have houses on them too. Not sure they will annex anything soon.
I also wonder if Bennington not being aggressive on annexation is a way to stay off Omaha's radar. More like Ralston and not at all like Elkhorn.
The growth is definitely headed that way though. I live near 156th and Ida and that stretch is booming. They are also doing a lot of roadwork around there and 168th, in all directions.

‘If we don’t annex anything will you let us exist as Ralston north?’

Interestingly Bennington today is almost in the same position of developments approaching it as Elkhorn was when Omaha moved to annex them. While there was around six miles in Douglas County west of eastern edge of Elkhorn compared to around a two miles north of the southern edge of Bennington, all the land west of the Elkhorn River is either in a flood plain or hazard - making that area not as desirable.
The main difference is Elkhorn started threatening Omaha's growth by annexing miles north, south, and east of it, making it so there was potential for Omaha to not be able to grow into the far northwestern portion of the county. Bennington probably learned from this and is smart by not trying to rapidly expand to where they end up being threatening too and causing Omaha to make a large jump like they did with Elkhorn.

Is Ida open by chance. I didn't see the usual detour sign at Fort.

Wasn't quite open last Monday when I took this photo.
That looks like north of Military, which is a separate project and was still closed last night when I went up to shoot the Aurora Borealis. Looking at the timelapse, 168th & Ida opened October 24th.
I'm surprised they aren't doing the section through Military as part of this. I guess they'll close this stretch again in the future when they move the intersection to Rainwood.

Oh, duh! I photographed both when I was up there. I post the other one later. It was open when I photographed it.
