Gorat’s Deli+Market (204th & Pacific)

Post by nebugeater »

Someone has been inside the former Burger Detour on 204th st. Different lights were on inside when I went by about 5 AM today, and the "OPEN" sign was on.

Decided not to wait in the drive-through.

There is a banner reading “COMING SOON J. Gorat’s Deli+Market” hanging in the windows on the east side of the former Burger Detour at 204th and Pacific.

Edit: Here’s their website. Not much information beyond this one location and basic mission statement.

Will be interesting to see how it does as there's a Pickleman's in the same shopping center just a few bays down that does a good business for sandwiches and the grocery store across the parking lot for everything else a deli might have. Was kinda hoping for another fast casual or fast food option since this stretch is close to home and is a bit sparse when it comes to convenient/on-the-go food options.

They have a Facebook page that I saw today because of a share from the Wahoo Locker that I follow. It looks like they opened today.

My wife and I stopped to check this out about 11:30 on Saturday. Each had a sandwich and drink and ate in the patio area that had been the seating area before.

I had the Cuban Press.
IT was a win. Very good and plenty of meat on a great roll. Would have it again.

Wice had the Chicken Cutlet.
She liked it. To me the Chicken looked a little over cooked but she said it was fine. She said it was something she would get again.

They were really busy. We waited well over 30 minutes for our sandwiches after placing our order.

As I was waiting, they told people they had a couple of larger orders that they had just gotten that had been called in, and that the wait to order at the counter would be over an hour.

On a side note, they really promote "buy local" and the local businesses they partner with. That is great, but I was surprised to see that many of the items on the shelves around the store were far from local. In almost every case, I could think of a local offering that could take its place. Not to bag on them at all. Just surprised to find this.

Not everything that rolls off a Sysco truck is premade |expletive|. They sell raw ingredients too.

J. Gorat's Deli + Market
1220 S 203rd St

I stopped in here for the first time a couple of weeks ago and was surprised to see a familiar face behind the counter. John, one of the owner's, used to be the Bar Manager at Copacabana (cigar bar in West O). Great guy and he was an excellent bartender too. So, he's the J in J. Gorat's. I have no doubt he's going to be a superb proprietor. He had the whole family working there (wife and daughter) that afternoon. My sandwich was excellent.
